Sony Presented New Wireless Microphones

The Japanese company Sony recently presented its new wireless microphone ECM-W2BT and a compact stereo lavalier microphone ECM-LV1. The former enables wireless high-quality audio recordings. It also has reduced noise and a stable connection. That is especially true with a Sony digital-quality camera and in conjunction with the ECM-LV1. That makes the two innovations an ideal solution for YouTubers and vloggers.

You can achieve noise-free digital recording by connecting the receiver to a compatible camera. However, this must be equipped with a multi-interface and be consistent with the digital audio interface. The digital audio signal is recorded directly by the camera without having to use your audio cable. At the same time, the developers have designed the microphone in such a way that it guarantees the highest possible sound quality. The microphone capsule ensures that the quality of the recordings is clear. The wireless connection between microphone and receiver should work over a length of up to 200 meters. The prerequisite for this, however, is good visibility. The new Qualcomm processor is responsible for high-quality audio recordings with low latency times, Sony emphasized at the presentation.

But that’s not all. The new recording function of the microphone should provide its owner with even more creative freedom. It provides three different sound recording modes. These are the MIC mode, the MIS mode and the new RCVR mode. That allows you to adjust the recording of sound and ambient noises as desired. In MIC mode, the device only records the sound from the transmitter. In RCVR mode, you only record the sound from the internal microphone. That allows users to register themselves. In MIX mode, on the other hand, both soundtracks are recorded. That is ideal for recordings in which you want to hear both the filmed object and the user.

The new microphone has a stereo audio input and a socket for the external 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack. It enables the recording of stereo sound. So the users can use it in combination with the ECM-LV1. That is attached discreetly to the clothing of a filmed person. That gives the sound recording a very realistic sound. So that you can work with it in demanding recording environments, the microphone has a damping function. A total of three levels are available for this. These can be used depending on the volume of the sound source. It reduces deafening sounds, records them with little distortion, or amplifies soft sounds.

That makes the sound recording clearer. The wind protection ensures less wind noise. A dedicated battery assist function ensures that you have power for up to 18 hours. The link lamp shows the status of the communication between the microphone and the receiver. The power lamp indicates the low battery level in good time. A protective connector holder for the accessory cap ensures that the receiver and you can wear the microphone as a unit. If required, you can also use it as a microphone stand. The ECM-W2BT is available from April for 239 euros; the ECM-LV1 is available for 35 euros.
